Text Box: PAMELA LAMBERT—SUCCESS STORY Hi Cindy: It has been a while since I have seen you, but I’ve thought of you and your crew often and how you’ve helped me. I had seen an E-mail you sent me back in December about a Professional Server and Hospitality Program so I called the number right away and was interviewed a week later and was the last to get approved for the course.. It is a gov’t funded course for women, offering co-ops and good chances for employment once finished. I finished the course and was offered a co-op at Inn On The Twenty @ Cave Springs Winery in Jordan. They hired me on once I finished my co-op pt. I also had another opportunity for a 2-week temp position at White Oaks Resort and Spa so I jumped on it. Once the temp position was completed at White Oaks, they offered me a full time position that I could not refuse. The perks and benefits are great! I am now working at White Oaks and have kept the part time job at The Inn on the Twenty for now. They are very accommodating. It all started with you guys at Niagara Action Centre. Octagon: WAYNE WEADICK “I took the resume the Action Centre helped me with and made some changes, concentrating on a sales career instead of Manufacturing. I made a list of 8 companies close by, found out a bit about each one, picked the one I would want to work for the most and went there, first in person. Did the same for three more. Managed to sit down with 3 of the 4 employers for a few minutes each and presented my resume. Followed up with a thank you letter to the three. It took some persistence to get by the Dragon Lady (receptionist) in each case but paid off with a second interview with my #1 choice after an excellent email from the owner inviting me back. Now I am there. Don’t give up. Try something else if what you are doing is not working. Decide what you really want and focus on that. You’ll start getting somewhere soon. Don’t spend so much time applying on the internet. I got to two places who had possible openings in the near future and hadn’t advertised for the job yet. I hope this helps you all………….” Wayne Weadick

Also thanks for the information which led to my full time employment at Tora Inc. I happened to walk in to the centre at the time Kerry was on the phone with Tora asking about employment. When she got off the phone, she printed my resume and a cover letter and told me to take it to Tora immediately and ask for a certain person, as they were hiring. When I dropped off my resume at Tora, I talked to the contact and was asked back for an interview, at which time I was hired. Thanks again everyone!! Mark Shanahan

Text Box: DWAYNE ROSEBOROUGH Dwayne recently graduated from college as an Electrical Engineering Technician. After a lot of hard work and job searching, he has also landed a full time job in Welland. Dwayne says; I thought it important that other former employees of Court Industries be encouraged not to give up, and that preparation, and perseverance will pay off. It's been since approximately March of '08 that I accepted a buy-out from Niagara Machine Products. Since leaving N.M.P. I've had odd jobs while up-grading, and between semesters as well, then full time academic studies until late April of this year. Since graduating, I've looked for work relentlessly, applying to approximately 60 companies; which has led to several phone calls, a few interviews, and after being hired at Bosch a job offer elsewhere. It did become very clear to me however, that most employers including Bosch, hire only college graduates of relevant studies. In-short, three years of hard work has paid off; I often wondered if it ever would.

I went back to school in 2009 at Niagara College and took the Educational Assistant—Special Needs Support course. Everyone was very helpful at the NAC whenever I stopped in for encouragement, photocopying or just an ear to listen to homework woes. After graduating this spring, I got a job with DSBN on their EA supply list and a part time job with Community Living. I also have taken on a private contract job and am happy to now volunteer at the NAC. Hopefully I can give back some of what I received when I visited the centre. Thank you. Donna Corfield
